I have known Sharon Kahler for 7 years. She has been organizing craft shows for 30 years and told me just the other day she still loves every minute of it. I want to be Sharon Kahler when I grow up!
Her first show was with friends, out of her home. When they outgrew that space she moved on to larger venues around the Pittsford/Fairport area; Perinton Square Mall, St. John of Rochester, Casa Larga Winery and Powers Farm Market.
My very first show was with Sharon at St. John of Rochester. I was as nervous and anxiety-filled as any first timer. She was warm and welcoming. She gave me a great spot, I did well and met a lot of nice artisans and customers. Customers kept asking me where my next show was, “Um, I don’t have one – this is my very first show ever! Just wanted to see if people like my work.” They did and I officially had The Fever.
I did Sharon’s shows at Casa Larga for several years; all three – May, October and November. When the rent became too high, which Sharon refused to pass on to the artisans, she found other locations to hold the show. But she tells me that Casa Larga employees would tell her that customers still showed up on those first Thursdays in those 3 months, looking for the show.
Sharon tries very hard to not have duplicate vendors and she spends a lot of money on advertising, while utilizing as much free publicity as she can get. She was bemoaning the increase of postage the other day because she sends out over 3000 postcards for each show. With each Welcome Packet given to each vendor, she includes copies of the ads she’s placed. And yet, I don’t believe she’s raised her fees to vendors once in the time I’ve been doing her shows. She’s amazing!
Sharon has a lovely relationship with the Powers family so she’s happy to hold a show there every spring, the weekend before Easter. Powers Farm Market opens the following weekend.

Please stop by the very cool log cabin market and see the amazing artisans Sharon has assembled together. If this wackadoo warm weather we’ve been having hasn’t put spring in your heart, this show certainly will. And say hello to Sharon – she’d love to meet you!
