This is only the second year that outside artists have been invited to sell their beautiful creations at this craft sale and several Rochester Artisans are proud to be among them.

Traditionally, the sale has been famous for the delicious pies baked by The Special Touch Bakery – so popular that there’s a rock-concert-long line, waiting for the sale to open. Their website boasts 17 flavors, though some are seasonal. Darn it, I’m guessing Bumbleberry is a spring/summer pie: raspberries, blueberries and rhubarb!

The Sale also features beautiful handcrafted items made in the agency’s ceramics and woodworking programs.

Holy Childhood provides individualized education, vocational training, clinical services and sheltered workshops for close to 200 individuals from Monroe and the surrounding counties.

Students and adults who make items for the sale have the opportunity to train for the world of work, while making high-quality items in an environment where they can work at their own pace.

The students, adults and volunteers work year-round to prepare for sale which will raise funds for programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

For more information about any of Holy Childhood’s programs, call (585)359-3710 or visit www.holychildhood.org.

George Eastman House Festival of Trees

The George Eastman House is one of Rochester most treasured landmarks.

George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film combines the world’s leading collections of photography and motion pictures with the National Historic Landmark mansion and gardens of Kodak founder George Eastman. Eastman is heralded as the father of popular photography and motion picture film.

In this age of digital photography, from cell phone cameras to on-demand television and movies in high definition, I am 100% guilty of taking those things for granted.

Thank you Mr. Eastman!

Rochester Artisans is proud to announce our participation in the Eastman House fundraising event, Festival of Trees. This very cool project was brought to my attention by Rochester Artisan Barbara Tuttle, of Glimmer Jewels, who is a docent at the Eastman House.

The Festival of Trees is just one of the annual holiday events held at the Eastman House. The Holiday Wreath Display and Auction will have over 30 wreaths donated by garden clubs and florists available for viewing and bidding.

The Sweet Creations Gingerbread House Display is a perennial favorite that always makes the local news!

The Festival of Trees will feature dozens of decorated trees donated by area groups and businesses.

I feel a Rochester Artisans field trip coming on in December to partake in this visual festivity!

With apologies to Mr. Eastman for my lackluster photograph skills, here are some photos of the ornaments created by Rochester Artisans, each in our own craft style.
