Love Local Art?

I have been blogging in various incarnations for 10 years as of this writing, and over the years I’ve been receiving more and more inquiries from fellow artists, asking for contact information for the craft shows I write about.

In November 2009, I started a Yahoo Group called Rochester Crafters as a place to hold a spreadsheet of show information, to which I could point anyone who inquired. I emailed the Join button to about 30 of my artistic friends. About 7 people joined right away. Over time, word has spread – and we’re now 196 artists strong!

As things do, one thing led to another and the Yahoo site holds show applications, profit calculating tools, information on credit card processing, online selling platforms and more.

It’s just an email group, we don’t have meetings or anything – we’re all too busy running our art businesses! Many of us have day jobs too, and families, of course.

I never expected the group to grow like this – and I never expected to have made such good new friends. It’s such a helpful group, always willing to share their experiences. Ask a question and several answers always appear! We’ve all learned new ways to think about things. It’s such a fun way to learn and teach, hanging out with like-minded people.

I thought up this website a few days ago, driving on a long stretch of highway while on vacation, killing time in my mind. 🙂 I see it as a site to highlight the creativity of our members, our online shops, our shows and festivals, our local stores. I want to have guests entries posted here, by our members. We want to meet you – please say hello!

If you are an artist in the upstate New York area, please join us! The button to join our Yahoo email group is on the right. We’d love to talk shop with you!

Who knows where it could all lead?

    Hi Stefani:
Thanks for inviting me to the site. I am very new at all this so having a cyber mentor is just awesome. I will continue to check the site for information. If you have any cool ideas of how I can get my designer pillows out there more, I am, certainly, open for suggestions.
