A Sale for Artists – July 30

This came to us in an email from Eve Elzenga. Some of you may know her from her With Love from Friends program, where Valentine’s Day cards were created by local artists. Eve worked with local agencies to disperse them to the elderly. She’s also an interior designer & event planner. If you’ve ever been invited to one of her fabuloso luncheons, the micro-attention to detail in her table settings alone will blow your mind.

You can imagine she has lots of cool stuff! She’s downsizing and selling lots of it on:
Saturday, July 30, 8am-3pm
415 Mt Vernon Avenue
Rochester, NY 14620

Beautiful craft supplies from the heyday of With Love: papers, stickers, scrapbooking materials, ribbons galore, punches, etc.

Vintage fabrics from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s. Lace, trims, appliqués, buttons, etc.

Party supplies: new paper napkins, plates, cups, cupcake papers, cake decorating materials, lanterns, party decor.

Like-new hard cover children’s books by famous authors/illustrators

Vintage books about every holiday you can think of with great illustrations you can use in art projects

Husqvarna Serger: never used, recently oiled, with every book, cd and instruction manual you could buy for it; in a carrying case.

Vintage hats in pristine condition. They were mine, most worn only once or twice.

“I’m sure I will be unearthing more this week. All will be priced to move swiftly!”

Sew Green Rochester

Increase the self-sufficiency of Rochester’s young people and adults by teaching them the skills of sewing, knitting, and needlework, and supplying the tools and materials they need at low to no cost. Through classes, camps, programs, rentals of space and equipment, and sales of fabric and sewing materials donated by the community, SewGreen@Rochester provides everything area residents need to learn to sew.

Rescue and reuse fabric, sewing machines, and all kinds of sewing, knitting, and needlework materials to extend their usefulness and keep them out of landfills. Local reuse consumes no energy for manufacturing and very little for transportation, and it keeps materials out of landfills, reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions.

I’ve added their link to our Giving page because people are always asking, “Where can I donate my no longer needed craft supplies?” Here is SewGreen@Rochester’s wish list.

On a personal note, I encourage you visit this adorable little shop year-round. I just started selling my hand stitched paper ornaments there. I took them a flock of my sweet little white songbirds with gold or silver metalic thread stitched wings, with more to come.

Jardin Terrariums – New in Fairport

Jardin Terrariums Logo

I had the pleasure of meeting new store owner Kathleen Rullo at this week’s Fairport Merchant Association meeting. I’d been watching her storefront with its Coming Soon signs for a while, at 13 North Main Street in Fairport.

Jardin Storefront

Upon entering the store browse various custom-made terrariums or “Jardins”. These tiny worlds will blow your mind, adults and children love looking inside to see all the hidden surprises! The studio is open for all during normal business hours, walk in and create. The space is excellent for hosting a private event. Your guests will walk away thrilled with their very own “Jardin” they created. Jardin Terrariums will work with you to plan the perfect event.

Creativ Framing & Design

Here’s my 5-star review I wrote earlier this year on Facebook for Allison Nichols’ amazing framing skills.

Allison recently framed a booklet for me. I thought she might remove the cover and frame that, but she suggested framing the entire program – and found a way to do it flawlessly, with beautiful materials. She’s an expert and her creativity is through the roof!

Kristin Harvey's Print for Mom
Allison also framed a print for my mom. Look at the perfect choice of color-core mats, in particular. I really love this and so does my mom – she uses it as her Facebook profile pic. The print is from an original painting by Kristin Harvey. The original was a big (36″ x 36″) bold colorful painting that I remember appearing in the Rochester Contemporary Art Center‘s members show a few years ago.

Allison also framed a giant map of the United States for me. Framing can be expensive so Allison found the least expensive and nice looking framing option for it. Every time I’m in her studio, I have to nose around at her latest projects. She’s a genius at framing 3D objects too – some of which you can see in the video. She’s right when she says that framing is a work of art in itself. When I bring a piece to Allison, I give her free range within the budget, to figure out what looks best. She’s never failed to amaze me.

Let’s Bead! is Closing

Personally, this is my favorite bead store. The first time I walked in and saw the wall of perfect tubes of perfectly colored beads lined up perfectly, I almost couldn’t breathe. The layout is clean and fresh, things are easy to find and the staff is amazing. They are friendly and helpful, just the best.

LetsBead Bead Wall

This is the very definition of bittersweet news. I’m happy for the owner, sad for the beading community. I wish someone could have purchased the business to keep it running business as usual.

Let’s Bead! Store Closing

The owner of Let’s Bead! is retiring and moving to a sunny location down south, so Let’s Bead! will be closing its doors permanently December 19th, 2015.

From September 21st until December 19th, all inventory in the store will be 50% off! We’ll also be selling our class samples, tools and equipment, our store displays, décor and fixtures. We will no longer be taking special orders or issuing gift cards. Be sure to redeem gift cards you may have. We will continue to do jewelry repairs as long as we have the components that are needed. We will no longer be conducting Design du Jour workshops.

It’s been great fun traveling to bead shows, working with talented and creative staff, learning and teaching a variety of beading techniques, and making many new friends, but now it’s time to escape Rochester winters and pursue new interests and adventures. We’re grateful to our loyal customers who have supported us these past 8-1/2 years, and we’re extending our remaining inventory at half price until we close in December.

Roc’Ella – Sept 26

All the details are here – lots of fun stuff to do and a great opportunity to enjoy local!

I already have 4 things on my calendar for Saturday, September 26, but if I can squeeze these in, I will. I’ve been looking into paste paper a little bit, thinking it might be something fun to make and add an interesting, truly one of a kind element to my paper art. And I really haven’t done any coloring as an adult but I know it’s a thing and I sure want to. It was one of my favorite activities as a child.
