A couple of weeks ago Betsy Murray of Sunshine on Water sent me her list of shows to add to our members only Shows page. On her list was six Wednesday nights at the Monroe Village Farmers’ Market.
I hadn’t thought about that market in a while so I started poking around the website. I was disappointed to see the list of artists appearing there this year hasn’t been updated to 2014, but still, I got a kick out of seeing a bunch of familiar names on their 2013 Artists list.
That got me thinking about all the area farmers’ markets and how in recent years, they have been allowing more and more craft artists to sell. I bet that serves them well at the very beginning of the season before they are filled to the brim with produce. I know the Fairport Farmers’ Market runs into November so that’s holiday gift buying season, again, when produce & plants have petered out.
A couple of years ago I was helping artists connect with various farmers’ markets and was so pleased to see how they are spread throughout the week. I’d always been of the mind that they fall on Saturday morning, like the Public Market (which runs other days too) and Fairport’s market.
I was thinking I should post a list of area markets for reference – I don’t know if they are already filled or if there are always openings, or any details, actually. But this thought has been rattling around in my brain for a number of days – and then today, as I was reading Greenovation President Deb Muratore’s column in their newsletter – boom! There’s the very link I would have looked for if I’d gotten that far.
I give you the 2014 Farmers’ Market Guide.
I’d love to hear about your experiences, if you’ve been selling at local farmers’ markets.

I had not heard of this show until I read about it on Betsy’s Sunshine on Water blog. Now I’m intrigued! What better place to spend the 4th of July than on the water buying art?
“The whale tails have been hand-forged by me with .925 Sterling Silver. The earring hooks are also made with sterling silver.”
“Using high quality sterling silver is important to me. I form all of my designs with .925 sterling silver and incorporate clean lines with beautiful shapes.”
If you find yourself in the Cazenovia area, here’s a great show to visit!

When I first met Betsy a couple of years ago she was creating flawless plaster wall art. As we talked she explained to me that she makes each mold out of clay. The clay is not fired so the mold is not reusable. I was blown away that her beautifully simple pieces had so much work going into them “behind the scenes”. She has a few in her Etsy shop and will make them as custom orders now.
What Betsy is now becoming known for is her beautiful sterling silver jewelry, her initial necklaces, in particular. I get a real kick reading Betsy’s Facebook posts about where various pieces are being mailed off to, all over the world.
I am an artist and jewelry designer with a love for original art and unique jewelry. In my work, I use natural colors that compliment various decor, wall color and style.
My hand-made jewelry is nickel-free and great for those with sensitive skin. I strive to make sterling silver jewelry that is both beautiful and comfortable to wear. After all, you want to enjoy the look AND feel of your jewelry! I have sensitive ears and there is nothing worse than having red ears 2 days after wearing a new pair of earrings- not fun! Using high quality sterling silver is important to me! I form all of the metalwork in my designs using .925 sterling silver and incorporating clean lines with beautiful shapes!
I live in Upstate NY and have a degree in Studio Art from SUNY College at Brockport. My shop name, Sunshine On Water, came about because I love to walk along the beach and watch the sunrise or set over the water- my idea of total perfection!
~You can find me and more of my work on my Sunshine on Water Facebook page.
Betsy makes every component of her earrings, even the posts and wires. She is as meticulous about the construction and durability of each piece, as she is about, what I call, her perfect simplicity.
Betsy celebrated a birthday this week so I “borrowed” this photo from her Facebook page. Birthday or not, this is how I see Betsy every time we meet, smiling and beautiful!
