Nancy Murty: A Matter of Beauty

April 20th – June 6th from 9am-5pm

I have a new painting hanging in the ‘A Matter of Beauty’ show and I’d like to invite you to the Opening Reception on Friday, April 24th from 6-8pm. If you can’t make it to the reception, the gallery will be open from 9am-5pm daily from April 20th through June 6th. ~ Nancy Murty ~

Nancy Murty is a friend and a Hungerford neighbor. I’ve been a fan of her artwork since I became familiar with The Hungerford and now I’m a huge fan of her as a person! She is super nice, very funny and is always willing to share what she knows. I have a feeling that any time she sees something that needs doing she thinks, “How hard can that be?” Her beautifully tranquil studio is the envy of every artist in the building. She’s an amazing graphic artist who took on the rebranding of The Hungerford, a job for which we now pay her, thank goodness.

2014 Holiday at The Hungerford
Most of us credit Nancy’s beautiful design of the Holidays at The Hungerford “ornament” with increased sales this past holiday season.

She recently joined the bird banding team as their Scribe, at Braddock Bay Bird Observatory. You can read about her first day on her blog. She says she’s enjoying it because it’s something she’s doing just for her. I can’t wait to see what sort of incredible paintings come of all that hands-on experience!

The original painting above has already sold, but you can buy prints in her Etsy shop. We also carry her magnets & prints at Fairport Pharmacy & Gift Shop.

Getting to know Nancy has been one of the highlights of my time at The Hungerford.

April Giveaway Beads
We continue our 3rd Saturday Token Program in an artisan way! Make a purchase in any of our 3 stores and you’ll be given a token to one of the other stores. Make a purchase there that day and receive a free gift. We’ve given away hand stitched paper magnets, fused glass magnets and in April, our free gift is a beautiful handmade bead created by Lori Prince. She crafted the bead from polymer clay and embossed and embellished it beautifully. It has a large diameter hole, perfect for those popular bracelets – or slide it onto a cord or chain to wear as a necklace. Slip it onto a length of ribbon for the perfect bookmark.

Call for Art: Yuletide Traditions

Perinton Historical Society Yuletide Traditions Image 2014

I recently made a new friend, the director of the Perinton Historical Society. We had an appointment at Fairport Pharmacy last week, and even though her first name is Vicki with an “i”, I was half-expecting an old geezer. I say geezer in a loving way, being a woman of a certain age myself. 🙂

Vicki Profitt is younger than I am (so who’s the geezer now??) By the end of our short conversation, we felt like we were related, we have so much in common. It was fun.

She told me about a fundraiser they are holding to benefit the Perinton Historical Society so naturally, I thought of my artist friends!

Donate a decorated tree, wreath or gift basket for silent auctions to benefit the

Perinton Historical Society.

Origami Spirit

Business Card Holders 404

Since I became manager of the Fairport Pharmacy Gift Shop last fall, I’ve been looking for business card holders I could make to display the cards of all of our artists. Why? I’m too frugal for the Pharmacy to pay Staples for those plastic ones, even though they are cheap.

More importantly – we are better than plastic – we’re artsy! I finally found an origami business card holder that I love! So I made 50 last night and will set them out today. I made these out of text weight paper – and yes, they sturdy enough to hold a smart phone, for video viewing and podcast listening. Simple and genius! Leyla Torres’ site, Origami Spirit, is now one of my favorites.

If you are fan of origami, you might get a kick out of my Pinterest board.

Leyla’s instructions for this business card holder are here:

I did have to laugh at myself; I got carried away with an enticing description of the products offered in the gift shop – then I looked up. “Oh, right. Twitter. 140.”

Fairport Holiday Shopping Night – December 13, 5:00-8:00

On Thursday night, 19 Fairport merchants have joined together to celebrate Fairport Holiday Shopping. They will be open later than usual, 8:00, and many will serve refreshments and offer specials. There’s also a gift basket, valued at $150, filled by the participating merchants, offered as a prize drawing. (Need not be present to win!)

As the manager of the Fairport Pharmacy Gift Shop, I promise you there are all sorts of new artful offerings available in the gift shop. Please stop in to see what we have for you, as you make your list and check it twice. Or maybe there is something special there, just for you!

These are the artists currently selling in the gift shop with more to come. It’s a cliche, I know, but literally – new artists and items are being added weekly. It’s fresh and lovely and I hope you stop in to see it all. If not Thursday, sometime soon! (Normal gift shop hours are Mon-Fri, 9:00-7:00 and Sat, 9:00-2:00.)
