Sunday Saved the Weekend

My heart went out to my artist friends participating in the art & craft shows this weekend. Saturday, in these parts, was chilly and rainy. Thankfully, Sunday showed up just like it was supposed to, full of sunshine and renewed spirit!

I printed 100 of the new business cards that I designed last night. Those images are just your garden variety Microsoft clip art. If there’s a member among us who wants to take a stab at making this better, have at it. I really like the concept though, of including as many mediums as space allows. And you know I love little boxes all lined up nice and neat. I’m pretty happy with this overall – but am more than happy to consider anything else similar!

I spent about 4 hours at Fairport Canal Days today, hanging out with artist friends, meeting Rochester Crafters in person whom I only knew online and of course recruiting new members. I gave out all 100 of those business cards so I’ll be reprinting more when I head to my studio shortly. I’ve now added my personal contact information on the back – not sure why I didn’t think of that earlier.

Here are some of our artist members I talked to today. Unfortunately I didn’t photograph every member I ran into because sometimes I got so busy yakking with them, I forgot! Shocking, I know. Click on the images to visit the artist’s website.

Lilac Festival : Arts & Crafts Show: May 14 – May15th 2011

The only 10-day free festival of its kind in North America it is inspired by a magnificent lilac collection at Highland Park that plays host to over 500 varieties of lilacs on more than 1,200 bushes.   What was first planted in 1892 by horticulturist John Dunbar has turned into the world’s largest lilac collection that even Martha Stewart has enjoyed when she visited the festival in 2007.  This event is perfect for all ages and was even voted as a top 100 event by the American Bus Association for 2010.

A favorite attraction at the Lilac Festival is the two Art’s & Craft Shows which take place on Festival weekends. Art Show booths are set-up along South Avenue near the corner of Highland Avenue. Both national and local artists are featured. Some of the arts and crafts on display at this year’s Lilac Festival are ceramics, pottery, handmade wooden art, metal sculptures, paintings, photography, floral arrangements, clothing, jewelry, furniture, lamps, mirrors, and more.

Check our “Artisans Show Schedule” to see which Rochester Crafters will be present there!

Fiber Faire at the Memorial Art Gallery: May 12-13, 2011

Every three years, fiber artists from around the world
submit their best recent work to Fiberart International, a
juried exhibition organized by the Fiberarts Guild of
Pittsburgh. In 2011, MAG will be one of only three tour
stops for the prestigious show, which brings together
work rooted in ancient techniques and materials, non-
traditional textiles made possible by technological
advances, and art made from such unexpected materials
as cable ties and X-ray film.

On Thursday 5/12, few of the Rochester crafters amongst other area artists will be present at the MAG showcasing as well as selling their fiber work. Come swing by! $5 admission includes gallery admission.
